The work that happens outside the clinic.
Much of what we do never appears on an appointment list. Screening camps, school and community visits, cases found in people who have never had their eyes examined — this is where we write that up, alongside plain guidance on looking after your sight.
What our outreach looks like
Distance, cost and simply not knowing are the reasons most people with treatable sight loss never reach a specialist. Our outreach programme goes to meet them — into communities across Nigeria and beyond, with the same consultant-led standard we hold inside the hospital.
Screening
Vision checks taken into community settings — markets, schools, places of worship — reaching people who have never had their eyes examined and would not have thought to ask.
Treating
Care given on site wherever it can be, and a clear route into the hospital for anyone whose condition needs more than a visit can provide. Nobody is found and then left.
Educating
Plain guidance on eye health, so that communities recognise the warning signs early and know that coming forward is worth it.
